Jonathan Majors must have a hard-working team behind him. His once-shelved film, Magazine Dreams, will be released this Friday. That news is a miracle in and of itself. Then, in the lead-up to the release, an article came out with celebrities like Matthew McConaughey and Whoopi Goldberg praising Majors’s character and lamenting how no one gets to say sorry anymore. This is after Michael B. Jordan was quoted as eager to work with his friend again. Then, Majors was interviewed after a screening of his new movie and pleaded his case to Disney, all while a tape of him was released by Rolling Stone where he admits to strangling ex-girlfriend Grace Jabari.

That’s why Majors is fighting for his reputation; he completely demolished it. The actor was found guilty of misdemeanor harassment and assault. As a result, he was fired from the MCU and many upcoming projects were shelved no matter how far into development they were. It was the right move. I understand that people should be allowed to earn redemption, but Majors isn’t even close to that. As Maura Hooper, another ex who spoke out against Majors put it, “What do you get at the end of a 52-week domestic violence course? Do the victims get a debrief? How could I know if he’s changed? I don’t see redemption happening here.”

Despite his conviction and the chilling tape being out in the world for everyone to hear, Majors is trying to get back into Disney’s good graces and saying he’d love to work with them (cause duh). “Yeah, of course I say yes. Disney, Marvel Studios, I love them,” Majors explained to USA Today. “Tom Hiddleston, loved working with that guy. Loved working with Paul Rudd. Loved working with Gugu Mbatha-Raw. I love the industry so much, and now I’m in the place where I can feel the love from them and actually express my love for them.” See! He’s all better, and talking like someone who knows they f***ed up (cause they did).

Saying he can finally express his love for the industry is an insane way to say he’s better. It reeks of desperation and makes him sound as much like an abusive ex as we know him to be. Also, asking him if he would work with Disney again is a dumb f***ing question that feels tailor-made to help that look possible. In what world would that even be his decision?! They got rid of him. They dragged their feet in doing so, but they still did it. This is just a way to sane wash a man who has been thoroughly outed as a stone-cold creep and abuser. But there’s more!

Entertainment Weekly asked him if he would return to Marvel or the Creed films. Yes, please, ask if he would return to two successful franchises, one of which he was removed from and the other whose shepherd stuck up for him recently. “Yes. Yes, to both,” Majors said in a no-duh moment. “The version of me that would come back to those places, though, would be different. I don’t think anything different would happen between ‘action’ and ‘cut.’ That’s why I got the job. But there would be something different about it if I were to come back, and I would like that. But as I said, it’s not in my control.”

The last quote makes the whole thing feel even crazier because he is fully aware he severely messed up. This isn’t a simple fix. But, again to Hooper’s point, how on Earth do we know for sure that he is as changed as he says? How can the safety of other women on sets with him be guaranteed? Why is he getting these softball questions when so much evidence of his terrible behavior is out in the world for everyone to see? It’s shameful s***.

Working with Majors should be a non-starter. I don’t have a good answer for when someone can be fully rehabilitated after behaving as egregiously as he did but I can sure as s*** say that the time is not now. These puff pieces are embarrassing enough. If he returned to the MCU, even for an after-credits scene where his character is killed off, it would set a precedent we wouldn’t return from anytime soon.
