Social media and the world are full of unattainable beauty stereotypes, so finding who values us for what we are, and not for how we look, is truly comforting. This is the case of I Weigh, an Instagram account that is responsible for visualizing the true value of women.
Jameela Jamil, actress and British presenter, was responsible for launching this social media movement. The I Weigh instagram account reposts photos of women who recognize themselves as they are. Basically, you post a photo and list all of the ~amazing~ things that you "weigh" a.k.a worth—family, friends, love, happiness, career, and so on.
This movement began on March 16, when Jameela uploaded her own selfie with the hashtag: #IWeight, It was so successful that hundreds of women began to send her their own photos, and that's how she opened the Instagram account to give them visibility.
This post of mine started a mad wave of amazing women posting their own back to me in our revolution against shame and self hatred over our looks, perpetuated by the media. I have received thousands and they are too beautiful to not celebrate. I have started an account called @i_weigh to post them all. SEND ME YOURS to that account! I’m fucking tired of seeing women just ignore what’s amazing about them and their lives and their achievements, just because they don’t have a bloody thigh gap. The link is in my bio but please follow the account so we can start this revolution properly and make the fashion and media industry see how many of us are DONE with this shit. ❤️
Jameela's initiative was so successful that it has had more than 500 publications since it launched. Hundreds of women have been inspired by this movement and with the help of the hashtag #IWeigh they teach the world how much they are worth.
And you, how much do you weigh?
