You've probably been wondering why the happy meal hasn't been coming with cute Disney toys for the past 12 years—or perhaps you haven't even noticed at all. Thing is, McDonald's and Disney are friends again after their break up in 2006—and it's major!
Before we get to the nitty-gritty, let's backtrack the reason they went their separate ways in the first place. Ironically enough, it had to do with one of the biggest fans of both brands: kids.
According to an article published on the Los Angeles Times in 2006, Disney did not renew its decades-long, cross-promotional pact with the fast-food giant because the company wanted to distance itself from fast food and its links to the epidemic of childhood obesity.

But times have changed and McD has gotten the memo, introducing healthier food options for kids. In February, the company announced that they will further its efforts by setting five new Global Happy Meal Goals through 2022, including balanced meals, simplified ingredients, and more. They are so involved now that they're even taking the cheeseburger off their menu and reducing the number of french fries that go in the happy meal.
Because of their new game plan to help reduce childhood obesity, Disney has reunited with McD's in time for a promotional alliance that will begin in June with Incredibles 2.
“McDonald’s commitment to balanced Happy Meals allows our two companies to collaborate on new ways to bring the magic of Disney to McDonald’s consumers,” said Tiffany Rende, Senior Vice President, Corporate Alliances, The Walt Disney Company, in a press statement.
Kudos to the two companies for putting their differences aside!
