The Trump presidency unfortunately gave rise to a number of fringe lunatics on the right, and those of us who cover politics became all too familiar with some of those personalities. Steven Crowder is one of them. He has an audience of six million subscribers on Youtube, although he has been demonetized a number of times, including for a full year in 2019 for using racial and homophobic slurs. He is not subtle about his racism; he’s one of those guys who claim that mainstream media is out to get white men. Crowder is also the guy who popularized the Change My Mind meme.
Crowder and those like him were riding high during the Trump years, but the Biden years haven’t been as kind to them. Yesterday, Steven Crowder announced on his YouTube show, Louder with Crowder, that he is going through a divorce with his wife, Hilary. “I’ve had a proverbial boot on my neck for going on years now,” he said. She filed for divorce in 2021, and Crowder has been in a “living hell” since. The two have managed, however, to keep it quiet for the last two years. He also admits that the divorce wasn’t his idea, and repeatedly expresses frustration with no-fault divorce laws that allow women to divorce their husbands without the husband’s consent. “In today’s legal system, my beliefs don’t matter. In Texas, divorce is permitted when one party wants it. Period.”
Steven Crowder goes out of his way to make it clear that he’s angry his wife is allowed to divorce him without his permission.

So just a reminder to moderate and conservative women: the men you think are your allies won’t stop until they take all of YOUR rights away too. https://t.co/ZiCPhhGVbY
Crowder was trending on Twitter overnight, and among those tweets, not only did conservative men think it was unfair that women could leave their husbands without permission but there were a number of conservative women who also complained that women shouldn’t be able to divorce their husbands unless they were unfaithful or abusive.
In the announcement, Crowder — who repeatedly mentions that the divorce wasn’t the fault of his kids — also blamed Candace Owens over on The Daily Wire for “extorting” him. Crowder said that she is the reason he had to make the announcement.
Candace Owens did not take kindly to that accusation.
If you are going to use your children as human shields to block people from digging further into your divorce, please do so without inserting me into the narrative. @scrowder

She also went after him on The Daily Wire, threatening to sue him for defamation.

I mention this mostly because both Steven Crowder and Candace Owens represent the cruelty in “the cruelty is the point” of the Republican party. While they are both mostly fringe lunatics who typically don’t merit mention, it’s rewarding to see some karmic retribution. The continuing feud between Steven Crowder and not only Owens but all of The Daily Wire has been amusing to watch from afar, if only because it pits two MAGA factions against each other. It’s the least we deserve for putting up with them for so many years.
