Nikki Glaser was a huge hit as host of the Golden Globes this year—perhaps the most well-liked host since Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. She quickly put the disastrous Jo Koy Golden Globes in the rearview, and ratings were up seven percent despite competition from one of the year’s most anticipated NFL matchups (a Vikings/Lions game that ended up being a dud). Word is, the Golden Globes are already planning to bring Glaser back next season and potentially offer a longer-term solution for the awards show.
Glaser is more than willing to return despite being paid relatively little for the gig ($400,000 compared to Jerrod Carmichael’s $500,000, although Glasser will get a big raise next year). Jon Stewart praised her, and even Harrison Ford told her backstage that she was doing a hell of a job with a tough assignment.
After hosting Sunday night, Glaser appeared on Howard Stern’s show on Monday to reflect on the experience. She had nothing but positive things to say and even shared some of the jokes she chose not to use. The main reason for cutting them? She didn’t want to deliver those jokes in front of their subjects. Most of them, in hindsight, probably would have worked. The Adrien Brody joke might have stirred up too much controversy for her first time hosting, and the Nicole Kidman joke might have ruffled feathers, but otherwise, they likely would have landed well in the room.
