Happy holidays to all those celebrating. When I saw this thread pop up on AskReddit the other day, I hoped the end result would be the sharing some relatively light-hearted examples of how the pressure of the holidays causes people to behave cartoonishly and irrationally. As it turned out, it was full of quite heavy stuff. Sickness and death and that kind of despair. To be fair, that is probably more reflective of the current state of the world and the unimaginable horrors still being committed out there, outside of (yet in many ways intertwined with) our privileged holiday cocoon. Nevertheless, I’ve tried to pick out some of the relatively light examples from the thread, partly to provide some relief to those of us going through it at the moment, and partly to share in that common humanity these can often evoke.
