Nine months since announcing that he will return to The Daily Show through the election, Jon Stewart has now agreed to stick around for at least one more year, until December 2025, according to Comedy Central. Here’s the blah blah blah:

“Jon’s incisive intellect and sharp wit make him one of the most important voices in political and cultural commentary today,” said Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Co-CEO and President/CEO, Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios. “His ability to cut through the noise and deliver clear-eyed insights is exactly what we need which is why we are thrilled to have him leading The Daily Show for another year.”

“I’ve truly enjoyed being back working with the incredible team at The Daily Show and Comedy Central. I was really hoping they’d allow me to do every other Monday, but I’ll just have to suck it up…,” said Jon Stewart.

If Trump wins, at least we’ll have Jon Stewart around to speak truth to power (and given Stewart’s politics, that’s true if Kamala Harris wins, too). Plus, who better than Stewart to document the downfall of Democracy?

I catch most of his Monday episodes, but I’ll admit that what excites me most is that his weekly podcast will presumably stick around for another year. The long-form conversations about issues with experts in the field really do offer one of the most insightful podcasts around, and instead of 50/50 substance/comedy, as with the show, it’s more 90/10 substance/comedy. I do also love the renewed attention he’s brought to The Daily Show, where Michael Kosta, Ronny Chieng, Jordan Klepper, and especially Desi Lydic have crushed it this year.
