It’s no secret that FOX News carries water for the Republican party. They are not shy about it in the slightest. Watch them cover the continually successful economy under Joe Biden and see them react with fear and confusion. They are as transparent as they have ever been. There are limits. They don’t want to get sued thanks to Trump’s rampant lies about election fraud, but finding that ceiling took time.

Still, Fox News will pretend that their interviewers and “journalists” are running a fair and balanced operation. They will go easy on anyone who claims to be a registered Republican or former liberal, then treat Democrats like they are criminals meant to be interrogated. Like actual interrogations, Fox’s interviews with Democrats will include lying in an attempt to slip them up or get them to lie. A recent interview with Kamala Harris was no different.

The Vice President sat down with Fox’s Bret Baier for an intense interview on Wednesday. Baier often attempted to steamroll Harris, but she held her own and insisted several times that she be allowed to finish her answer. It’s tough to know if it will change the minds of any FOX News viewers, but it was a strong showing by the Democratic nominee, especially when she called Baier out in real time for playing a misleading clip.

Harris brought up that Trump has referred to Democrats recently as the “enemy within” and that they could be dealt with using the National Guard. This is from the same party that insisted hateful rhetoric be toned down. Baier said his colleagues had asked Trump about that comment, then played a clip of Trump downplaying his words, despite the fact that he has continued to refer to Democrats that way. Harris called out the misleading clip, in a moment that has gone viral on social media.

Now, Baier is claiming that the clip wasn’t part of Fox’s continued efforts to undermine anyone not named Donald Trump. It was just a little oopsie. “I did make a mistake, and I want to say the mistake,” Baier told colleague Harris Faulkner. “When I called for a soundbite, I was expecting a piece of ‘enemy from within’ from Maria Bartiromo’s interview to be tied to the piece from your town hall, Harris, where you ask the former president about the enemy from within. It just had the piece about the town hall.”

It’s funny that Baier thinks people will believe this. I get why he’s doing it. If Trump loses there will certainly be turnover at Fox. People have made careers out of ditching their support for him. There’s a chance Baier could do the same, and that would be much easier if he could save face and pretend he’s being fair and balanced. It will probably work, too. But anyone who was paying attention knows what he was really doing, unfortunately, a lot of people just don’t care.
