If this trailer is to be believed, The Brutalist will be “MONUMENTAL.” Everyone is saying so. It’s the story of an architect who flees to America from post-war Europe and becomes recognized as a visionary. Brutalist architecture is oppressive. Characterized by its use of concrete, block-like forms, and geometric designs, it’s a style probably most familiar to you from movies about dystopian futures, unless you’re from Albany, NY. In which case, it’s just familiar. When you’re reading Orwell’s 1984 and picturing the buildings the Ministries are in, that’s Brutalism.

The Brutalist stars Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce, and Joe Alwyn. It opens in limited theaters on December 20th.

Peacock’s upcoming series, Laid, takes the idea of a woman’s “body count” literally when a woman finds out that all of her previous lovers are dying in unusual ways. My interest in Stephanie Hsu might counteract my complete lack of interest in Zosia Mamet on this one.

Along with Hsu and Mamet the eight-episode series features Chloe Fineman (Saturday Night Live), Simu Liu, Michael Angarano (Sky High), Tommy Martinez (Hunters, Good Trouble), and Finneas O’Connell. Laid begins streaming on Peacock on December 19th.

Sound the Klaxons Reacher season three is coming in February! Alan Ritchson and Maria Sten as Neagley are back, and Olivier Richters (Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny) has been cast as the season’s Big Bad. And he’s huge.

Season three is based on the book Persuader and the first three episodes will be available to stream on Prime on February 20. New episodes will stream on Thursdays after that.

The phrase “from the mind of Clive Barker” elicits some very specific imagery, and none of it is child-friendly. So I’m not sure what to think of this week’s lagniappe, Night Of The Zoopocalypse. It might get real weird.
