If the upcoming Rosemary’s Baby prequel, Apartment 7A, gives us nothing else, Dianne Wiest’s impersonation of Ruth Gordon as a younger Minnie Castevet will be entirely worth it.
Apartment 7A also stars Julia Garner (Ozark), Kevin McNally (Pirates of the Caribbean), and Jim Sturgess (Home Before Dark).
The film premieres on Paramount+ on September 27.
Award-winning French filmmaker Jacques Audiard has created a hypnotic fever dream with Netflix’s Emilia Pérez. It stars Zoe Saldaa, Selena Gomez, Karla Sofía Gascón, Adriana Paz, and Edgar Ramírez (Florida Man).
I have to say it’s nice to see Zoe Saldaa in a role that doesn’t require full-body makeup. It’s been a while.
Emilia Pérez opens in select theaters this fall and premieres on Netflix on November 13.
Also on Netflix, the director of Green Room and Hold The Dark, Jeremy Saulnier has a new movie premiering next week.
The plot of Rebel Ridge sounds like a Jack Reacher book or a riff on The Rock’s Walking Tall. But Saulnier directing Aaron Pierre (Brother, The Underground Railroad) means that it will be better than both (with all respects to our man, Reacher.)
Rebel Ridge also stars AnnaSophia Robb (The Carrie Diaries), Don Johnson, David Denman (The Office), James Cromwell, Emory Cohen (Brooklyn), and Erin Doherty (The Crown),
Rebel Ridge will be available to stream on Netflix beginning September 6th.
Christopher Reeve will forever be the best Superman do not try to argue with me. His story deserves more than a mention in this week’s lagniappe. But Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story is only being released in theaters as a Fathom Event on September 21st and 25th, so most of us will have to wait for it to come to streaming to see it. It’s going to take a box of tissues to get me through this one.
