It’s August, The WGA/SAG-AFTRA strike continues, and there’s not a lot of news coming out of Hollywood this week. So we’ve decided to lean into it and present this set of ridiculous trailers for actual movies that are really being released. For real.
Haunting of the Queen Mary will be released in just a few days, but Fangoria only found out about it this week. You know it will be a quality film because they didn’t feel the need to include an article at the beginning of the title. There’s a list of 26 producers on the movie’s IMDb page. Some of them are also responsible for Winchester and The Woman In Black. Director Gary Shore previously gave us Dracula Untold so…yeah.
Haunting of the Queen Mary stars Alice Eve, Joel Fry (In The Earth), Nell Hudson (2022’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre), and BAFTA winner Lenny Rush (Am I Being Unreasonable).
It will be available in theaters and On Demand on August 18th.
This is also somehow a movie that got made. This project should make us all rethink the little voice in our heads that tells us our ideas aren’t good enough. Because someone wrote the script for Slotherhouse and someone else greenlit it for production. It shall enter the Pantheon and take its rightful place alongside Sharks Of The Corn and Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey
Slotherhouse stars Lisa Ambalavanar, Stefan Kapicic (Colossus in the Deadpool movies), and Sydney Craven. For better or worse it will be released in theaters on August 30th.
Dicks: The Musical is the real deal though. A24’s first musical is a black comedy based on the Broadway musical Fucking Identical Twins. It was written by and stars Josh Sharp and Aaron Jackson. It also stars Nathan Lane, Megan Mullally, Bowen Yang, and Megan Thee Stallion. Director Larry Charles was also partially responsible for the first Borat film, and writing/directing on Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
This trailer is extremely not safe for work.
Dicks: The Musical opens on September 29th. At least we have that to look forward to.
I saved the best for last with this week’s lagniappe. It is your reward for sitting through some of that nonsense up there. Fremont is a beautiful film from award-winning writer/director Babak Jalali that stars Anaita Wali Zada, Jeremy Allen White, and Gregg Turkington.
Fremont will open in select theaters on August 25th.
