A series inspired by the life of Selena Quintanilla makes us think we're about to watch a show full of music and glitter or so we though! The first official trailer of El Secreto de Selena came out and we saw a scenario completely opposite to the joy that characterized the singer.
Starring Maya Zapata as Selena and Damayanti Quintanar as Yolanda Saldívar, here are 3 reasons why El Secreto de Selena will be a darker series than we imagined:
#1 The first scene
When thinking of a series dedicated to the queen of Tex-Mex, one thinks of dance, music, and color. But the first images we see in the trailer are of police arriving at the crime scene where Selena lost her life. With that element, it is established that the focus of the program will be around the murder of the singer, and perhaps not so much of her life in general.
#2 Autopsy room
One of the most controversial scenes is the one that takes place in a forensic room, where for a couple of seconds the body of Selena is observed. On the Internet, some people found a lack of respect for the artist's memory. Seeing an expert about to perform an autopsy was a surprise that not everyone expected.
#3 Will Yolanda's perspective be addressed?
Another element that caused the fans to be mad, was that the series will reveal the side of the story of Yolanda Saldívar, who defends that it was an accident. Although this does not necessarily mean that what she did will be justified, some fans find it even morbid to give so much prominence to the killer.
It is worth mentioning that the series is based on the book of the same name by the journalist María Celeste Arrarás. This publication caused a stir when it went on sale that even Selena's sister, Suzette Quintanilla expressed her anger by saying that this book was based on Yolanda's lies. María Celeste denied that accusation by saying that her writing came from a serious and meticulous investigation, as she told People.
El Secreto de Selena is a Telemundo production together with BTF Media. The series will air on Telemundo, TNT Latin America, and Azteca Uno. The release date is still to be confirmed. Will you see it? What do you think of the first images of the program?
