First picture of SpaceX spacesuit. More in days to follow. Worth noting that this actually works (not a mockup). Already tested to double vacuum pressure. Was incredibly hard to balance esthetics and function. Easy to do either separately.
Elon Musk has recently revealed what the SpaceX spacesuit will look like and boy does this suit look sleek. I'd even go as far as saying this is one small step for SpaceX and one giant leap for space fashion.
Musk assures his legion of followers that the suits actually do work and said it's hard balancing aesthetic and functionality. It might have been hard but it seems like the hard work paid off because the suits have been tested and they're ready to hit space.
It's incredible to see just how far technology has come when the Apollo Suit weighed about 180 pounds —that weight includes the life support backpack. The Shuttle suit — including the life support system — weighed around 310 pounds. That's heavy AF!
There's no confirmation on what the weight of the SpaceX suit is, but judging by looks alone, this new age suit looks far sleek (and lighter) than it's old school counter parts.
Musk didn't specify whether these new suits were meant to be worn by those riding inside the company's Dragon Capsule, or if they were apt to be worn by those flying around in outer space. Either way, they look pretty damn awesome.
