There’s a serious problem happening across the United States: our children are hungry!
Child hunger is very much real and it’s affecting 1 in 6 kids in America. That means, over 13 million children in the U.S., in every community, live in a “food insecure” home. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, this term is used for families that don’t have enough money to buy the most basic of all human needs: food.
The issue is not the lack of food in the country because there’s enough food for everyone. The problem is that many children in the U.S., including Florida, California, New York, and Texas, can’t access it.
Luckily, there are many ways you can contribute to this social issue.
One way is right under your nose and it’s easy and fun! New trading cards for Star Wars junkies are making the rounds because you too, can be a hero like Han Solo! With the purchase of these cards, you’ll be donating to the No Kid Hungry organization, which helps fight child hunger through meal programs, cooking tips on a budget, and advocacy.
Just so you have an idea about their amazing game plan, here are some ways, according to their official website:
- School Breakfast: "Instead of serving breakfast in the cafeteria before the bell, we make it part of the regular day, just like lunch." Through this initiative, an addition 2.8 million kids are eating a healthy, balanced morning meal.
- Summer Meals: 500,000 "families have found free summer meals sites for their kids through No Kid Hungry’s text-to-find-summer-meals service."
- Food Skills Education: Thanks to No Kids Hungry, "464,000 families have learned to shop and cook healthier.
But it doesn't stop there. No Kid Hungry has partnered for the past seven years with Denny’s to help end child hunger. This year, the American diner is making sure every customer joins the cause and goes home a happy camper after their meal.
How so? Denny’s has exclusively collaborated with Solo: A Star Wars Story to offer trading card packs containing two movie characters and a coupon for only $3. To continue their mission to help end child hunger, Denny’s is donating a portion of all trading card sales to No Kid Hungry.
Star Wars? Denny’s? Trading Cards? What better way to join the cause!
