The year was off to a weird start when in mid-January the #TidePodChallenge began making the rounds on the internet, encouraging kids and teens to eat or drink detergent pods for fun.
The National Capital Poison Center weighed in on the "internet craze," emphasizing on the dangerous consequences of putting a pod in your mouth. "Biting into one can cause serious injury or even death."
Now, parents are being advised to be on the lookout for the Condom Challenge—the new harmful trend that teens are participating in.
What is the condom challenge?
The Condom Challenge is when a person inhales an unwrapped condom through their nostril and pulls it through their mouth, according to KMPH Fox 26. Not only is it disgusting, but it's extremely threatening to your health.
"There are all kinds of drugs and kids are clever, so it's just really what are our kids doing? So, that's what we try to share," said Stephen Enriquez, an education specialist, of the trend.
Enriquez also said there's no reason behind this crazy challenge other than teens wanting to get likes, views, and subscribers on social media. "As graphic as it is, we have to show parents because teens are going online looking for challenges and recreating them."
