In this world there are two types of people: 1) The ones who throw away wrapping paper after opening their gifts or 2) the ones who put their leftover wrapping paper to good use.
This is Olivia Mears...
I'm posting DIY costume ideas over on @western_carolina stories now until #halloween. Let me know what you'd like to see mentioned! #wcuhalloween #wcu #westerncarolina #cullowhee
or a.k.a. @AvantGeek on social media. She's a 26-year-old International costume designer based from North Carolina whose art has been featured on renowned publications such as Good Morning America and On Air With Ryan Seacrest.
According to her website, "her work focuses on original designs in both fine art and fashion, cosplay, 'food fashion' and wearable art of unconventional materials."
Mears first began making headlines when she created a collection of food-themed dresses, including the "Taco Belle" and "Pizzarella."
I am really impressed with the number of amazing #tacobelles this Halloween and for #alltacoseve! I hope everyone had a great thyme! 😉 🌮🔔 Costume and photo by me, circa 2014. (This is not a contest entry)
Among other current projects, pizza dress #2 is included! So much work, so little thyme. 🍕 #pizzadress #avantgeek #pizza #foodfashion #fooddress #halloween
Now, the talented designer presents her latest work of art: elegant gowns made out of leftover Christmas wrapping paper.
"I've been making dresses from wrapping paper after the holidays for a few years," she expressed on Imgur. "I'm continuously inspired to find unconventional or recyclable things to make dresses/art out of," she added.
Ever since she kicked off the idea in 2014, Mears already has three dresses in her Xmas collection made entirely of recycled paper, ribbons, bows, and what not. Check them out below.
Wrapping paper dress time! This was the first one made in 2014 out of recycled paper, ribbons, & bows of Christmas aftermath, and a petticoat underneath for support. I wanted a vintage postcard look in this photo, part of a series: next one will be posted tomorrow! 🎁 #wrappingpaper #paperdress #recycledart #trashion #happyholidays #merrychristmas
The final wrapping paper dress design, from 2015. This one I've rebuilt twice: once because I got caught in rain at #biltmoreestate 😂! Made entirely from paper and decorations, with a petticoat underneath. I'm thinking blue or green for next year's! 🎄🎁
The newest wrapping paper dress, made entirely from paper and decorations. Purple is an uncommon decoration color to come by during the holidays, but I saw the purple bow and had to try! #holidaydress #happyholidays #merrychristmas #paperdress #coloroftheyear #2017 #newyear #wcu
